P. Janes Ltd – Fit Out Specialists

Switchable Glass Bifolds

Project Info

  • Project Name: Switchable Glass Bifolds – Children’s Hospice
  • Location: North Wales (carried out remotely with builder support; based in the UK, glass partner in Ireland)
  • Client: Best Construction (working alongside)
  • Office Size: small
  • Project Duration: 6-week lead time + 2 days on-site setup and installation (dates not specified)

What Was the Client Looking For?

The project required the installation of specialist switchable glass bifold doors in a operation room at a children’s hospice. The aim was to deliver a modern, flexible glass solution that could switch between transparent and opaque modes, this was to allow privacy when clients are inside, but to allow for the gorgeous views to be seen otherwise.

What Did We Deliver?

P. Janes Ltd coordinated the supply and installation of the switchable glass bifolds in partnership with a specialist glass supplier based in Ireland. Services delivered included:

  • Remote coordination with site contractors (Best Construction) to obtain exact measurements from the prepared framework
  • Pre-wiring of all cableways
  • Coordination of delivery and access to the hospice.
  • Installation and testing of the switchable glass controller and receiver
  • Unloading and installation of switchable glass panels into the frames
  • Final fit including gasket pressing and system readiness

Challenges

This job was located further afield than usual, which made pre-surveying difficult. Instead of conducting a physical survey, the team collaborated closely with the builders on-site to get accurate dimensions directly from the framework to place the glass order without delays. Coordinating timing with the 6-week lead time of the product added further logistical complexity.Furthermore once on site there were a few complexities with receiving the delivery which required on the point decisions to ensure we can get the glass to site before close of play.

Project Highlights

  • Remote Coordination: Achieving precise glass manufacturing without a site survey, thanks to accurate on-site builder collaboration
  • Specialist Product Integration: Seamless wiring and clean finish off controller and receiver in the ceiling.
  • Efficient Execution: All cableways were prepared the day before delivery, and pre wiring of controller, allowing for a smooth and immediate installation upon glass arrival

The Result

The switchable glass bifolds were successfully installed and fully operational, with clean integration into the existing frames and precise control functionality. Despite the logistical challenge of working from a distance, the project was delivered smoothly and on time thanks to clear planning and close communication with the on-site team.
